BBC1’s stripped drama Torchwood came to a close on Friday night with an impressive 5.8m viewers (26.7% share) at 9pm.
The hour-long sci-fi drama, which had aired in the same slot across last week, grew its audience from an initial 5.7m (26.7%) to a high at the end of 5.9m (26.8%).
The five-part drama, titled Children of Earth, held a strong audience over the five days with a series average of 5.9m (26.1%). Nearly half of those watching – 48% – were upmarket ABC1 viewers. Younger viewers, aged 16 and 34, weren’t so taken with the show as they made up 19.4% of those watching.
The series kicked off on 6 July with 5.9m (25.8%), dipped initially the next day to 5.6m (24%) but hit a high of 6.2m (27%) on Thursday. Although Friday’s finale couldn’t build on that high the show was still some way ahead of everyone else at the time.
