Gareth David-Lloyd spills the beans on new Torchwood series
Posted by Celyn on June 22, 2009 in InterviewsTorchwood

A BRAND new five-part series of Torchwood is coming soon to BBC One – and actor Gareth David-Lloyd says it’s the show’s most high-octane adventure yet.

Gareth’s character Ianto Jones rejoins Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) and Gwen (Eve Myles) in Torchwood – Children of Earth.

The team, still coming to terms with the death of two of their closest friends, face their greatest threat in one epic story told over five nights.

Gareth said his character is taken out of his comfort zone and thrust into the heart of the action. He said: “I absolutely loved filming this series – there are so many scenes that are memorable. But the one that does come to mind is crawling through the wreckage after a huge explosion.

“We filmed it in a quarry and used real pyrotechnics. It was really hot and I had to climb up the side of this quarry. It was the first time in my career I felt like a proper action hero.

Pregnant Torchwood star Eve Myles has Creme Egg cravings
Posted by Heather on May 27, 2009 in News

TORCHWOOD star Eve Myles is looking forward to the arrival of her first baby – by craving endless amounts of potatoes and chocolate!

The stunning brunette is 15 weeks’ pregnant with her first child, and says the experience is the best thing that’s ever happened to her.

But while she’s managed to dodge morning sickness, the 30-year-old actress has been suffering from some unusual cravings – for mashed spuds and Cadbury’s Creme Eggs.

She told Wales on Sunday that she and her long-term partner, actor Bradley Freegard, have already chosen names for a boy and a girl, but they will be keeping them under wraps.

“We’re so excited it’s ridiculous,” says Eve, who’s originally from Ystradgynlais but now lives in Cardiff.

“We have been pining and pining for a baby for about three years but it’s never been the right time. It’s just been work after work after work.

“But we thought it’s never going to be the right time and we didn’t want to turn around in 10 years and go ‘why didn’t we do it?’ so we did. We are very lucky. It’s a blessing.

“We have got names already, which we picked before I was even pregnant and we will stick with them.”

The couple have chosen not to find out the sex of their baby, which is due on November 6.

“You don’t get many surprises in life. I know everyone says it but as long as the baby has all its fingers and toes and is healthy I don’t care if it’s a girl or a boy.”

The slim actress says she’s already blooming.

“I’m like a Shetland pony at the moment but I love it,” she laughs.

“I can’t wait to be the size of a house. I’ve been very lucky and had no morning sickness. I’ve never felt so healthy in all my life as I’ve not been drinking and there have been no late nights. I’m feeling great and when the baby’s born I will miss being pregnant.”

Eve admits she’s had a few cravings, in particular mashed potato and chocolate eggs.

“At 11pm Bradley’s been having to make mashed potato,” she laughs. “And I also cleared the shelves in Sainsbury’s of Cadbury’s Creme Eggs. I think I’ve just been using it as an excuse really.”

The couple first met as members of the National Youth Theatre of Wales when Eve was just 16 and Bradley was 18. They were best friends for five years before becoming romantically involved. It will be their 10th anniversary in December but they have no plans to tie the knot yet.

“We always imagined the baby being at our wedding so hopefully that will happen in the next two years or so.”

Tonight Eve and Bradley, who recently appeared in the daytime soap Doctors, have another occasion to dress up – they will be gracing the red carpet for the Bafta Cymru awards at the Wales Millennium Centre.

Eve is nominated in the Best Actress category for the fifth time for her role as Ceri Lewis in BBC Wales drama Belonging, which ended earlier this year after a 10-year run.

She has won the trophy once before – two years ago for playing Gwen in Torchwood.

But she says winning the award for playing Ceri would be extra special.

“I’ve never won anything for her and never expected to win anything for her. But after 10 years it would be the best thing to get a Bafta Cymru for playing her.”

Torchwood returns to the airwaves
Posted by Celyn on May 23, 2009 in Torchwood

Following the huge success of Torchwood: Lost Souls, which was broadcast as part of Radio 4’s Big Bang season last year, the Torchwood cast are set to return to the airwaves in three brand new Torchwood radio plays.

Three 45 minute episodes will air in Radio 4’s Afternoon Play slot at 2.15pm. The three new radio plays bridge the gap between Torchwood: Lost Souls and the upcoming Torchwood: Children of Earth television series.

The episodes feature Captain Jack (John Barrowman), Gwen (Eve Myles) and Ianto (Gareth David-Lloyd) and have been recorded over the last two weeks. The episodes will be broadcast in advance of Torchwood: Children of Earth and will be available in the UK on BBC iPlayer and as a download for 7 days after broadcast.

Asylum by Anita Sullivan
The story of a teen runaway called Freda who is brought to the attention of Torchwood by PC Andy. As Gwen, Jack and Ianto investigate where this troubled girl has come from, Andy finds himself drawn closer than ever before into the world of Torchwood.

Golden Age by James Goss
Torchwood go to India to investigate the disappearance of hundreds of people. The trail leads them to an old colonial club which seems strangely stuck in the past as does its young and beautiful owner, the Duchess.

The Dead Line by Phil Ford
A series of mysterious phone calls lead Jack into danger, and result in ‘a very emotional moment for Ianto’.

BBC Radio 4 is available in the UK on 92-96FM, on digital or online at bbc.co.uk/radio4
